Does the Razr 50 Ultra support eSIM?
The Razr 50 Ultra is what decides whether a travel eSIM installs, not the Motorola name on the box. Storage, radio and market variant all change from one model to the next, so every figure below was checked on this model.

What the Razr 50 Ultra does with a travel eSIM
The Razr 50 Ultra folds, which changes nothing about the profile. The eSIM lives in the modem rather than the screen, so the install and the settings path are the same as any other handset in this range.
Installing writes the profile. Nothing is spent until it attaches to a network at the destination, so an install three weeks early costs exactly the same as one at the gate. Do it at home, on wifi, while you still have a connection to fix anything.
Storage and active lines
The Razr 50 Ultra holds 5 profiles, which is at the low end of everything we have checked. Delete the dead profiles from old trips before you install, or the sheet will simply refuse.
Active is how many lines run at the same time, and on the Razr 50 Ultra that is 2. Storage is how many profiles sit on the device waiting, and that is the number that runs out without warning.
Each destination's line installs in one tap from the Orbislo app, and while it is valid every refill lands on that same line. Most of Europe runs on a single line, so a trip through several neighbouring countries takes one slot rather than one per country.
- Home line: calls and texts, so bank codes still arrive on your usual number.
- Orbislo line: mobile data, with roaming switched on.
- Automatic data switching: off, or the phone borrows the expensive line in a tunnel.
5G on the Razr 50 Ultra, and where it will not appear
The Razr 50 Ultra has a 5G radio and the travel profile uses it. Where a partner network runs 5G, you get 5G, on the same profile and at no extra cost.
88 of our 197 destinations are 4G only on the networks we buy from. On those the icon reads LTE whatever the handset can do, and no setting changes it.
Speed belongs to the network rather than to the profile.
What goes wrong on the Razr 50 Ultra, and the fix
Data roaming has to be switched on for this line. Your profile is issued outside the country you are standing in, so the device treats every attachment as roaming. Leave it off and the Razr 50 Ultra finds a network and then refuses to use it.
If the profile will not download at all, the order refunds automatically inside 60 seconds, with no ticket. Install again from the same order, because the profile is reissued to your account rather than lost.
On this device the sequence is Settings, Network and internet, SIMs, the Orbislo line, Roaming on. Then set Orbislo as the SIM for mobile data and turn off automatic data switching.
- No service on the Orbislo line: roaming is off on that line.
- Connected but nothing loads: mobile data still points at the home line.
- Works, then stops after an hour: automatic data switching moved you back.
- Still searching: airplane mode on for 20 seconds, off, then restart.
Your SIM tray, and tethering
Your physical SIM stays exactly where it is. Adding an eSIM does not touch the tray, does not wipe the card and does not need it taken out. Remove it and you lose your own number, which is the opposite of the point.
Tethering is included on every Orbislo plan at no extra charge. The Razr 50 Ultra can share the travel data with a laptop, a tablet or a watch, and nothing behind the hotspot needs a profile of its own.
What an Orbislo plan does once it is installed
Data never expires. A gigabyte you do not use in Lisbon is still there in Bangkok next year, metered plans have no throttle, and every customer gets 100 MB of free rescue data once a month on the line in use when the balance runs out. Unlimited runs full speed to 2 GB a day and then 1 Mbps.
One balance pays in all 197 destinations, and most of Europe runs on a single line, so a rail trip through three neighbouring countries is one install and one balance rather than three of each. Refills arrive on the line you already have, with no new plan or expiry date. Where a destination has more than one partner network, the line can move between them without you touching a setting.
How to install a travel eSIM on the Razr 50 Ultra
- Open the Orbislo app and tap Install
- Confirm the eSIM download prompt
- Settings, Network and internet, SIMs, select Orbislo
- Turn on Roaming and set Orbislo as the SIM for mobile data
Data roaming sounds like it will cost you money. On the Orbislo line it cannot, because it is how that line reaches partner networks abroad and there is no charge beyond the data you already bought.

The Razr 50 Ultra by market
- Europe, Latin America, the Middle East, Africa and Asia-Pacific: Outside North America this flip phone is sold as the motorola razr 50 ultra. Motorola launched it in Europe and selected Latin American countries first, then rolled it out to selected markets in the Middle East, Africa and Asia-Pacific.
- United States and Canada: In the United States and Canada the same phone is sold as the motorola razr+ 2024. In the US it was sold through T-Mobile and AT&T, and sold universally unlocked through motorola.com, Amazon.com and Best Buy.
- United Kingdom and Europe: The razr 50 ultra sold by Motorola UK lists its SIM set-up as eSIM plus one physical SIM. A traveller can keep a home SIM card in the tray and add a travel eSIM as the second line.
- United States: Motorola US lists the razr+ 2024 with eSIM plus one physical SIM, the same layout as the razr 50 ultra sold elsewhere. A travel eSIM can run next to the home SIM card, so the US number stays reachable abroad.
- Japan: The razr 50 ultra sold by Motorola Japan has one nanoSIM slot plus eSIM, and adds Osaifu-Keitai support for Japanese contactless payments. A Japanese SIM card can stay in the slot while a travel eSIM carries data on trips abroad.
- India: Motorola India lists the razr 50 ultra with eSIM plus a physical SIM, so the Indian model accepts a travel eSIM in the same way as the European and US versions of the phone.
Networks on the Razr 50 Ultra
- The US razr+ 2024 covers sub-6 GHz 5G on bands n1, n2, n3, n5, n7, n12, n14, n20, n25, n26, n28, n29, n30, n38, n40, n41, n48, n66, n70, n71, n77 and n78. Motorola lists no mmWave 5G for it.
- The razr 50 ultra sold in the UK lists 5G bands n1, n2, n3, n5, n7, n8, n20, n26, n28, n38, n40, n41, n66, n71, n75, n77 and n78. It includes n8 and n75, and does not list n12, n14, n25, n29, n30, n48 or n70.
- On 4G, the UK razr 50 ultra lists LTE bands 1, 3, 7, 20 and 28 along with 32, 34, 42 and 43, and it does not list bands 14, 29, 30 or 46.
- The US razr+ 2024 lists LTE bands 14, 29, 30 and 46 for North American networks and does not list bands 32, 34, 42 or 43. It still covers LTE bands 1, 3, 7, 20 and 28.
- The Japanese razr 50 ultra lists 5G bands n77 and n78 but not n79, so its 5G in Japan runs on n77, n78 and the other listed bands, with LTE bands 1, 3, 8, 18, 19, 28, 41 and 42 for 4G.
- Motorola lists the US razr+ 2024 as compatible with Verizon, AT&T and T-Mobile, with 5G sub-6, VoLTE and Wi-Fi calling on all three, so a US home line keeps working for calls over Wi-Fi while a travel eSIM handles data.
- With a physical SIM and an eSIM installed, both lines on the razr 50 ultra can make and receive calls and texts. Mobile data is chosen under Settings, then Network and internet, then SIMs and mobile network, then SIM for mobile data.
- The razr 50 ultra can turn off Switch SIM automatically, which stops it from falling back to the home SIM for mobile data if the travel eSIM loses signal. That avoids unexpected roaming charges on the home plan.
- Wi-Fi calls on the razr 50 ultra are billed on the home cellular plan, even when roaming, so calls to numbers in the home country cost the same as normal. Some carriers require Wi-Fi calling to be turned on before leaving the home country.
Worth knowing about the Razr 50 Ultra
- Motorola lists security updates for the razr 50 ultra until June 2028. It launched on Android 14, has been upgraded to Android 15, and Android 16 is listed as its next OS, with security updates at least every two months.
- On the razr+ 2024, a SIM line can be switched off temporarily under Settings, then Network and internet, then SIMs and mobile network, which Motorola suggests when travelling. The home line then stops calls, texts and data until it is turned back on.
- The razr 50 ultra can set a data warning and a hard data limit per SIM under Settings, then Network and internet, then Mobile data, which helps keep a fixed-size travel eSIM from running out mid-trip.
- The US razr+ 2024 has the same support window as the razr 50 ultra: security updates until June 2028, launched on Android 14, upgraded to Android 15, with Android 16 listed as the next OS.
- Motorola says only the phone's original carrier can unlock a carrier-locked Motorola phone, and not every phone can be unlocked. A razr+ 2024 bought from a US carrier must be unlocked before it accepts a travel eSIM from another provider.
- On the razr+ 2024, a travel eSIM is added under Settings, then Network and internet, then SIMs and mobile network. The phone needs Wi-Fi if it has no mobile connection, so it is easiest to install the eSIM before leaving home.
- Erasing eSIMs on the razr+ 2024, under Settings, then System, then Reset options, removes calling, messaging and mobile data from those lines. It does not cancel the plan, and Motorola advises erasing only when a support technician says to.
