Underground and on the metro
Algiers Metro runs 1 lines. It opened in 2011. The operator does not publish whether the tunnels carry a mobile signal, so we do not claim either way.
Worth knowing about Algiers
- The airport has its own railway station, sitting between Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 and about a five-minute walk from the international Terminal 4; trains reach Agha station in central Algiers in around 20 minutes.
- The airport train is not round-the-clock: departures from the airport run from 05:30 to 21:35, with 34 journeys a day on the line.
- International flights use Terminal 4, opened on 29 April 2019, which is a separate building from Terminal 1 (domestic plus Middle East and Gulf carriers) and Terminal 2 (charter and pilgrimage flights).
- The Algiers Metro has a single operational line, opened for public service on 1 November 2011, with day-to-day operations run by the RATP Group.
- The airport operator SGSIA offers free Wi-Fi in the international flights terminal, which serves only international flights and is built for 10 million passengers a year.
- Taxis wait at Houari Boumediene around the clock, seven days a week, for trips to anywhere in Algiers.
- ETUSA city buses run to the airport every day from Audin, Place des Martyrs and the Kharouba coach station. From the bus stop or the airport train station, each terminal is a signposted walk.
- ETUSA's June 2025 timetable runs line 100 to Place des Martyrs and line 178 to Kharouba hourly from the airport between 06:00 and midnight, at a single fare, and the NAVIGUI pass is valid on both.
- SGSIA advises arriving three hours before departure. The international terminal has departures on its upper level and arrivals on the lower level.
- The Minute drop-off on the viaduct at the international terminal is for a temporary stop only, not parking. Taxis, buses and passenger cars may use it, and it is charged by the minute.
- Algiers also has a tram line run by SETRAM, opened on 8 May 2011, which covers 23 km and 37 stations from the historic Ruisseau district to Dergana Centre by way of Bab Ezzouar.
