Worth knowing about Phuntsholing
- Phuentsholing is a land crossing, not a flight. The town runs straight into Jaigaon in India through an ornate gate in the boundary wall, and Paro is the nearest airport.
- It is one of the four entry points where Bhutan keeps a visitor information centre, alongside Samtse, Gelephu and Samdrupjongkhar, which is also where SIM cards are sold to arriving visitors.
- Indian, Bangladeshi and Maldivian nationals can enter here on identity documents and pick up their permit in Phuentsholing itself. Everyone else needs a visa approved before travel, at US$40 plus US$100 a day in Sustainable Development Fee.
- The road out of town is the Lateral Road, Bhutan's main highway, which climbs from 293 m at the border towards Thimphu.
