Getting into Kinshasa
- Boulevard Lumumba into central Kinshasa (FIH), about 120 minutes
Worth knowing about Kinshasa
- Budget far more than the 20 km suggests. The run down Boulevard Lumumba is at least two hours into the centre and can take up to six once the city traffic sets in.
- Airport taxis are quoted at US$30 to US$50 into town and are unlikely to have air conditioning, so agree the fare before you get in.
- SIM cards are sold in the city rather than at the terminal. Airtel, Orange and Vodacom all keep shops in central Kinshasa, including at the Pullman Grand Hotel.
- Arriving by boat from Brazzaville is possible with a visa. Speed boats carry a handful of people and the merchant barge takes longer, and travellers are advised to leave before noon.
