Worth knowing about Tórshavn
- The airport is not on the same island as the city. Vágar Airport is on Vágar, 46 km west of Tórshavn, and the road in runs through the Vágatunnilin sub-sea tunnel under Vestmannasund.
- Bus tickets for route 300 are sold on board, and 4 day and 7 day travel cards are sold at the airport information desk rather than at a machine.
- The Faroese sub-sea tunnels are tolled by licence plate photo and the toll must be paid within six days, after which an invoice follows with a 50 kroner fee; a hire car's toll is paid to the rental company.
- Once you reach Tórshavn the red city buses are free to ride, on seven routes covering most of the city.
