- Tegucigalpa's international flights no longer land in the city. Every international carrier moved to Palmerola in December 2021, leaving Toncontin with domestic and cargo traffic only.
- Palmerola opened on 15 October 2021 on the site of Soto Cano Air Base, about 60 km northwest of Tegucigalpa city centre, near Comayagua.
- Toncontin is only 6 km from the centre but has a single 2,163 m runway, and the History Channel programme Most Extreme Airports ranked it the second most extreme airport in the world.
- Palmerola lists an official fixed fare taxi service of 350 to 900 lempiras and four shared transport operators waiting in the arrivals transport zone for the run to Tegucigalpa.
