Getting into Tel Aviv

Underground and on the metro
Tel Aviv Light Rail (Red Line) runs 1 lines. It opened in 2023. The operator does not publish whether the tunnels carry a mobile signal, so we do not claim either way.
Worth knowing about Tel Aviv
- The railway station at Ben Gurion Airport is on the lower level of Terminal 3, so the train boards underground rather than from a separate landside terminal.
- Half the Tel Aviv Light Rail Red Line runs below ground: 12 km of its 24 km route is in tunnel and 10 of its 34 stops are underground stations.
- The Red Line, opened on 18 August 2023, is the only Tel Aviv light rail line in service; the Green and Purple lines are still under construction, and none of them serves Ben Gurion Airport - the airport link is heavy rail.
- Ben Gurion is about 20 km southeast of Tel Aviv and 45 km northwest of Jerusalem, and Terminal 3 handles essentially all international traffic while Terminal 1 is used for domestic and some low-cost flights.
- Israel's Rav-Kav public transport card can be loaded online or in the official Rav-Kav Online app rather than only at a station, which lets a visitor top it up from a phone.
