Worth knowing about Vilnius
- Vilnius Airport is only about 6 km south of the city centre and a rail shuttle reaches Vilnius Central Station in 8 minutes.
- Airport Wi-Fi is free but sold in two-hour sessions with a limit of three sessions per registered user, so a working eSIM avoids repeated re-registration.
- The airport rail station is served by only about 16 trains a day, with gaps of up to 84 minutes between them.
- Vilnius buses and trolleybuses take contactless Mastercard, Maestro, Visa and Visa Electron straight on the validator, and Google Pay or Apple Pay on a phone or watch.
- If an inspector checks a bank card ticket for the first time, JUDU says you have to give the last four digits of the card. Later checks are a simple tap.
- Tapping the same card on the validator again shows whether the ticket is active and how much time is left on it.
- Four bus routes serve the airport: 88 to the centre and Europa Square, 1 and 2 to the railway and bus stations, all every 20 to 30 minutes, and express 3G every 10 minutes.
- Night route 88N runs between the airport, the centre and Europa Square from 22:30 to 05:30, so a late arrival is not stranded.
- Buses 88 and 3G reach the city centre in about 20 minutes, and the reusable JUDU card costs 1.50 euros from the Narvesen shop in arrivals or departures.
- Once a ticket is activated on board you transfer free within its validity across buses, trolleybuses, trains and the city boat service.
- The city names Trafi as the main app for Vilnius transport, used for routes, real time schedules and buying tickets, alongside the JUDU card and contactless bank cards.
- Vilnius Airport opened a new departures terminal on 4 February 2025, 14,400 square metres over two storeys, joined to the existing building by a gallery.
- The airport handled 6.6 million passengers in 2024. The old terminals are to be converted by the end of 2026 and a new arrivals terminal built by the end of 2028.
