Worth knowing about Antananarivo
- Ivato has separate domestic and international terminals, with the international terminal rebuilt and opened in December 2021.
- There is no rail or metro link from the airport; the 16 km road trip into Antananarivo commonly takes 30 to 60 minutes depending on traffic.
- Buying a local SIM at Ivato requires presenting a passport for registration, and the counters open around flight arrival times rather than continuously.
- The airport says you join its free Wi-Fi by scanning a QR code on posters in the departure area, and its published terms say the service is available only during airport opening hours.
- Ivato lists SIM card purchase, and banks, cash machines and bureaux de change, among its terminal services, without naming the operators or giving a location.
- Yas, formerly Telma, sells its eSIM only in person at a short list of named shops, one of which is Yas Store Aeroport Ivato. Its site states it is not selling online.
- The Yas prepaid tourist offer is 60,000 Ariary or 12 euro for 30 days, with 5 GB of data, an hour of national calls, 5 minutes of international calls and 50 SMS.
