Getting into Casablanca

Casablanca Tramway runs 4 lines. It opened in 2012. The operator does not publish whether the tunnels carry a mobile signal, so we do not claim either way.

Worth knowing about Casablanca

• Mohammed V airport has its own ONCF railway station, with the hourly Al Bidaoui train running from 05:30 to 23:00 into both Casa-Port and Casa-Voyageurs.
• The Casablanca Tramway is a surface tram network of four lines, so it is street-level rather than underground apart from a short tunnel on line T4.
• Tram line T3 terminates at Casa-Port station and T1 passes Casa-Voyageurs, letting arriving rail passengers change straight onto the tram.
• A single tramway ticket costs 8 dirhams and a two journey ticket 14 dirhams.
• The rechargeable card brings the fare down to 6 dirhams a trip. The card itself costs 15 dirhams and stays valid for five years.
• Passes run at 60 dirhams a week, 230 dirhams a month, and 150 dirhams a month for students under 26, each on the same 15 dirham five year card.
• One ticket or pass covers both the tramway and the busway, so a transfer between the two modes does not need a second fare.
• The operator gives the combined Casatramway and Casabusway network as 151 stations, with a tram or busway roughly every 8 minutes.
• The operator's app plans trips, shows live schedules and sells tickets through an e-boutique, so it wants a data connection.
• The tramway proper is four lines, 72.5 km and 110 stations, and the lines cross each other at nine points.
• The network doubled recently: T1 opened in December 2012 and T2 in January 2019, but T3 and T4 both opened on 23 September 2024.
• T4 is the exception to the street level rule, dipping under De La Croix Boulevard near the Oulad Ziane bus station and crossing the A101 motorway on a viaduct.
• Casablanca's busway has two lines: BW1 covers 12.5 km from Lissasfa to Salmia 2, and BW2 covers 12 km from Maarif to Errahma. Together they serve 42 stations and meet the tram at three interchanges.
• Single tram and busway tickets come from machines at every station, and rechargeable cards can be topped up online through the operator's e-boutique. Children under four ride free with an adult.
• ONCF runs the airport train from 05:30 to 23:00, one departure an hour, timed to the flight schedule. From arrivals, signs marked Gare ONCF lead to a covered walkway, about five minutes on foot to the platforms.
• Airport train tickets are sold on oncf-voyages.ma, in the ONCF Voyages app, which keeps the ticket on the phone, or at the station counters.
• Casa Voyageurs is one of the four Al Boraq high speed stations, which offer free Wi-Fi and charging points. Al Boraq runs from here to Tangier via Rabat Agdal and Kenitra.
