Worth knowing about Ohrid
- No buses link Ohrid airport with the town; a taxi, roughly 12 euro for the 9 km, is the only public option.
- Ohrid airport is operated by TAV Airports under a twenty-year concession granted in 2008, the same operator as Skopje.
- Several Ohrid routes are seasonal only, including Belgrade, Vienna and UK charter services.
- The narrow-gauge railway that once linked Ohrid to Skopje ceased operating in 1966, so there is no train to Ohrid.
- The free wifi at Ohrid airport is Makedonski Telekom's Telekom HotSpot, available in the terminal and the VIP lounge, joined by tapping Connect on the page that opens.
- Each Ohrid airport wifi session lasts 30 minutes, after which you have to reconnect to the wireless network again. The connection is filtered for inappropriate content, viruses and spam.
- The airport states there is no regular shuttle bus to Ohrid. The only bus transport is organised by local travel agencies for arranged tours and seasonal charter flights.
- Ohrid airport opens only according to the flight timetable, so there is no round the clock terminal to wait in between flights.
- The airport's only listed shop is ATU Duty Free, and its other commercial locations are one shop and two currency exchange offices. No mobile operator counter is listed.
- The airport gives its road distance as 10 km west of the centre of Ohrid on motorway E65, and directs drivers from Struga east for 6 km then 3 km on the E65.
- Ohrid municipality added free Hot Spot internet in front of the church of St Sophia and on the Makedonija quay in August 2019.
- The town's earlier free Hot Spot points were on Sv. Kliment Ohridski square, on Krushevska Republika square and at the Plaoshnik site, all in or beside the old town.
- A1 lists Ohrid and neighbouring Struga among the regions its 5G network already covers in North Macedonia.
- Lake Ohrid straddles the border with Albania. 31 percent of its surface and 36 percent of its shoreline are Albanian, and Pogradec sits on the Albanian side.
- If a phone on the lake latches onto an Albanian network, roaming inside the Western Balkans has been free of surcharges since 1 July 2021, so a Macedonian number pays domestic rates.
- North Macedonia is not yet in the EU's Roam Like at Home area. The European Commission only proposed opening negotiations to extend it to the Western Balkans on 25 February 2026.
