Worth knowing about Providenciales
- The airport has been nominally renamed Howard Hamilton International Airport, but Providenciales International is still the dominant name in use.
- There is no public transport or bus service on Providenciales or on any other island in the Turks and Caicos, and no rideshare services either. Taxis, rental cars and pre booked private transfers are the whole list.
- Taxis here are large shared vans that charge per rider, so the driver may wait 5 to 15 minutes to fill up before leaving. Two people to central Grace Bay pay about 28 US dollars in 2026, and the tourist board advises confirming the total for the whole party before setting off.
- There is no bureau de change at the airport, immigration can take over an hour at busy times, and the terminal has two baggage carousels that airlines do not always use as assigned.
- The ferry to North Caicos leaves from Heaving Down Rock Marina, also called Walkin Marina, at the far east end of Providenciales rather than from anywhere near the airport. The crossing is 30 minutes to Bellefield Landing.
