Worth knowing about Bruges
- Bruges has no airport of its own; the nearest is Ostend-Bruges International, about 25 km from the city centre.
- Ostend-Bruges airport is largely a freight airport whose passenger flights are mainly charter and tour-operator holiday services, so most visitors to Bruges arrive through Brussels Airport instead.
- Bruges has no metro and no tram network; local public transport is De Lijn buses.
- The only public transport the Ostend-Bruges airport lists on its own site is De Lijn bus line 60, which runs to Ostend rather than to Bruges, so reaching Bruges means changing to a train at Ostend station.
- The port of Bruges is not in the city itself: it is at Zeebrugge on the coast, whose name means 'Bruges-on-Sea'.
