Worth knowing about Toronto
- The TTC states that 5G cellular service is available in select areas of the subway system not throughout it so expect your connection to drop between some stations underground.
- Two very different airport rides: UP Express runs Pearson to Union Station in 28 minutes with only three intermediate stops (Weston, Mount Dennis, Bloor), while the TTC covers downtown to Pearson in about 45 minutes for a single ordinary TTC fare.
- Billy Bishop is on an island: the only ways in are a 90-second ferry across the 121-metre Western Gap (free for pedestrians, $15 return for a vehicle, every 15 minutes from 05:15 to 00:07) or a pedestrian tunnel.
- The Billy Bishop pedestrian tunnel is 853 feet long and runs 100 feet beneath Lake Ontario's Western Channel; six elevators and four moving walkways get you from the mainland pavilion to check-in in under six minutes. Expect no signal for that stretch unless you are already connected.
- Billy Bishop operates 05:00 to 23:00 daily, so a late-evening arrival into Toronto will be at Pearson, not downtown.
