Worth knowing about Hurghada
- Hurghada is Egypt's second-busiest airport after Cairo, with 9,636,689 passengers in 2024 across two passenger terminals, and it sits 5 km southwest of El Dahar, the city centre.
- Scheduled traffic is mostly Cairo plus direct services to several European cities, so most arrivals land on an international rather than a domestic sector.
- The city splits into El Dahar, El Saqqala and El Ahyaa; Dahar, the oldest part, holds the traditional bazaar, the post office and the Go Bus and Upper Egypt Bus long-distance coach stations.
- Hurghada's newer terminal opened on 17 December 2014 after a 335 million dollar investment. It covers 92,000 square metres on three levels, with 72 check-in counters and 20 departure gates.
- Hurghada is the capital and largest city of Egypt's Red Sea Governorate, with a population of 214,247 recorded in 2023.
