Underground and on the metro
Jaipur Metro runs 1 lines. It opened in 2015. The operator does not publish whether the tunnels carry a mobile signal, so we do not claim either way.
Worth knowing about Jaipur
- Jaipur Metro is a single Pink Line of 11 stations and it does not reach the airport. The airport rail link is only planned, as part of the Phase 2 Orange Line.
- Almost all of the Jaipur Metro is elevated: of the 9.63 km built in Phase 1A only 0.95 km is underground. The tunnelled eastern extension to Badi Chaupar, under the walled city, opened on 23 September 2020 and is the only stretch where you lose sky view.
- The airport sits in the southern suburb of Sanganer only about 10 km from the city centre, and splits traffic across two terminals: T1 for international and T2 for domestic flights.
- An Indian mobile number issued to a foreign national stays valid only until the visa validity date, per Airtel's own terms for foreign nationals and tourists.
- Jaipur airport's network is #JAI_FreeWi-Fi. The login page accepts a local or an international mobile number and texts it a one-time password.
- Without a SIM that can take a text, show your passport at the Information Desk or a Wi-Fi kiosk to get a password. International arrivals have a kiosk near the immigration counters in Terminal 1.
- The airport's listed SIM counter is Airtel, at Level 2 arrivals in the domestic Terminal 2 rather than the international terminal.
- Prepaid taxis operate at the domestic terminal, private taxi companies have counters in arrivals at both terminals, and app-based cabs can be booked from either.
- Metered auto rickshaws wait outside both terminals for rides within the city, and JCTSL city buses link the airport with key parts of Jaipur. The main bus stand is 11 km away.
- The Union Cabinet has approved Jaipur Metro Phase 2, a 41 km north to south line from Prahladpura to Todi Mod with 36 stations, including underground stations at the airport. Completion is targeted for September 2031.
