Worth knowing about Bali
- Bali runs on Central Indonesia Time (WITA, UTC+8), one hour ahead of Jakarta and the rest of Java, which are on WIB (UTC+7). Bali was moved into the central zone on 1 January 1988.
- Bali is an island province, not a single city; its capital is Denpasar and the island is roughly 153 km east to west. Ngurah Rai (DPS) at Tuban, about 13 km south of Denpasar, is its only commercial airport, so every arrival funnels through one terminal complex.
- The main fast road out of the airport, the 8.3 km Bali Mandara Toll Road opened in 2013, was built across the Gulf of Benoa on water rather than on land, because the Ngurah Rai Bypass could not be widened past the runway. It is entirely above ground, with no tunnels.
