Getting into Jakarta
- Soekarno-Hatta Airport Rail Link (KAI Commuter) to BNI City and Manggarai (CGK), about 47 minutes
- LRT Jabodebek Bekasi Line via Halim station, reached by airport shuttle bus (HLP)
Underground and on the metro
Jakarta MRT runs 1 lines. It opened in 2019. The operator does not publish whether the tunnels carry a mobile signal, so we do not claim either way.
Worth knowing about Jakarta
- Jakarta has two airports and they are not interchangeable: Soekarno-Hatta (CGK) is about 20 km northwest of central Jakarta and is the country's main international gateway, while Halim (HLP) is about 12 km out and, despite the international designation, handles mostly domestic flights.
- The Soekarno-Hatta Airport Rail Link takes about 46 to 48 minutes between the airport and BNI City, runs every 30 minutes, and the last service from BNI City is at 21:51, so a late-evening arrival has to use the road instead.
- Jakarta MRT is a single North-South line of 13 stations, 6 of them underground (Bundaran HI, Dukuh Atas BNI, Setiabudi Astra, Bendungan Hilir, Istora Mandiri, Senayan Mastercard). It reaches neither airport, but interchanges with the Airport Rail Link at Dukuh Atas / BNI City.
- Jakarta is on Western Indonesia Time (WIB, UTC+7), one hour behind Bali, which uses WITA (UTC+8) - worth checking if you fly on to Bali or set data-usage alarms.
