- The airport's own page puts it 7.0 km northwest of the city centre, with a terminal sized for 4,500,000 passengers a year and a 4,800 m runway that ranks among the ten longest in the world.
- Erbil International has had short closures since October 2023, with operations resuming after a few hours. A flight here is more often held than cancelled outright.
- Arrivals go upstairs by escalator or lift to immigration. The airport says anyone who is not a domestic passenger or an Iraqi national needs a valid passport with a visa to enter.
- The current terminal opened on 30 March 2011 and handled 2,128,659 passengers in 2024, which makes Erbil the third busiest airport in Iraq and the busiest in the Kurdistan Region.
