- Decan has no airport and no railway station. It is reached on the R107 regional road that connects Peja and Prizren, and the nearest airport is Prishtina, at the far side of the country.
- The Visoki Decani monastery, the reason most visitors come, stands about 2 km west of the town and has had a KFOR guard since 1999. As of 2023 it holds a 24 hour guard and is the only one of Kosovo's four endangered medieval World Heritage monuments with a direct KFOR presence, so a visit means passing a military checkpoint.
- Decan municipality sits on the western edge of the Dukagjini plain in the foothills of the Accursed Mountains, sharing its western border with Albania and its northwestern border with Montenegro.
