Worth knowing about Riga
- Riga has no metro and never got one: construction was planned from 1990 but was cancelled after public protests and the collapse of the USSR, leaving Riga the largest Baltic or Nordic capital without a subway.
- The airport has no railway station yet bus line 22 is the public transport link, with a Rail Baltica station planned but not built.
- Riga Airport introduced a fixed-price taxi voucher system in April 2024 for trips into the centre.
- Surface transport in the city is Rīgas Satiksme's seven tram lines plus buses and trolleybuses; trams have run in Riga since 1882.
- By day, bus 22 links Riga airport with the centre in about 40 minutes, stopping at Grecinieku iela beside the Old Town and at Autoosta by the international bus station; towards the airport, board at Centrala Stacija or 13. janvara iela.
- After bus 22 stops for the night, the N22 night bus runs hourly: from the airport at 00:30, 01:30, 02:30, 03:30 and 04:30, and from the Stacijas laukums stop on Marijas iela on the hour from midnight to 04:00.
- Riga's public transport operator Rigas satiksme sells 90 minute tickets and 24 hour, 3 day and 5 day tickets, and also lets passengers pay for trips with a smartphone.
- The Riga Unified Ticket covers a single Vivi train journey in zones A to E and then a 90 minute ticket on Rigas satiksme buses, trams and trolleybuses, which saves one euro against buying the two separately.
