- Mzuzu Airport has a 1,600 m bitumen runway but no airline is listed as serving it, and Malawi's transport record noted that as of 2015 only two airports in the country had scheduled passenger services. Plan on arriving by road.
- A new airport for Mzuzu was announced by the Ministry of Public Works and Transport in June 2015, and as of 2022 construction had not begun.
- Mzuzu is Malawi's third largest city, with 221,272 residents at the 2018 census plus around 20,000 university commuters, and it sits on the M1, the highway that runs the length of the country.
- Mzuzu is the northern terminus of the M5, which runs east through a gap in the Viphya Mountains to Nkhata Bay and then south along the shore of Lake Malawi.
