Worth knowing about Bamako
- The airport was renamed: what older tickets and guides call Bamako-Senou is now Modibo Keita International Airport. It is about 15 km (9.3 mi) south of the city centre and shares the field with the neighbouring Air Base 101.
- The airport has been attacked twice in recent years, in September 2024 and again in April 2026, with damage to aircraft and facilities on both occasions.
- Bamako's public transport is the sotrama, a shared minibus, most of which are owned independently by their drivers rather than run as a network with published routes.
- Rail out of Bamako goes west only. A scheduled passenger service between Bamako and Kayes restarted in 2023, but no passenger train has crossed into Senegal since the service was halted in May 2010.
- Three bridges carry traffic across the Niger in Bamako: the Pont des Martyrs of 1960, the King Fahd Bridge, and the Pont de l'amitie sino-malienne at Sotuba, built in 2011 to take pressure off the downtown crossings.
