- Kayes Dag-Dag Airport does have scheduled flights: Sky Mali serves Bamako. The rebuilt airport was inaugurated on 18 September 2011 with the runway extended from 1,600 m to 2,700 m, and a fuel depot allowing aircraft to refuel opened in May 2016.
- The airport is only about 6.3 km (3.9 mi) from the centre of Kayes, so the transfer is short even though the town itself is remote.
- Kayes is 420 km northwest of Bamako as the crow flies but 612 km by Route Nationale 1, and roughly 96 km from the Senegalese border.
- The Dakar to Niger railway runs through Kayes and a scheduled Kayes to Bamako passenger service restarted in 2023. Trains have not run across the border into Senegal since passenger service on that stretch was halted in May 2010.
