Worth knowing about Zouérat
- Tazadit Airport has a 2,500 m asphalt runway, but the only scheduled destination listed for it is Nouadhibou, on Mauritania Airlines. There is no listed direct flight between Zouerat and the capital.
- The other way in and out is the iron ore train. Zouerat is the inland end of the 704 km SNIM railway to Nouadhibou, worked by trains of 200 to 210 ore cars behind two diesel electric locomotives and reaching up to 3 km long.
- Passenger cars are sometimes attached to the ore trains, but more often people simply ride free on top of the loaded hopper wagons. People use this to travel, not only to move ore, and the conditions are severe: daytime temperatures above 40 C, night temperatures near freezing, and deaths from falls are all recorded.
- A tourist train, a locomotive with two passenger carriages calling at the iron mines, resumed in January 2019 after a ten year gap.
