Worth knowing about Lofoten
- Lofoten is an archipelago and traditional district of six municipalities with about 24,500 residents, not a city.
- Neither Lofoten airport takes international flights: Leknes and Svolvær are served only by Widerøe Dash 8s on subsidised public service routes via Bodø.
- The E10 road links the Lofoten islands to each other by bridges and undersea tunnels, and the Lofast road connected the archipelago to mainland Norway only in December 2007.
- Ferries from Bodø serve Moskenes, Værøy and Røst, and the Hurtigruten calls at Stamsund and Svolvær.
- Nkom requires an original valid identity document, such as a passport, national identity card or Norwegian driving licence, or an electronic ID such as BankID, to take out or change a Norwegian mobile subscription.
- Nkom states that anyone without a Norwegian national identity number or D number must present valid identity documentation showing date of birth, place of birth, photograph and citizenship.

- The Reis app sells single and period tickets for buses and express boats in Nordland. You pay by payment card or Vipps, and Reis Nordland says you can buy a ticket without logging in.
- On Nordland buses you can buy a single ticket from the driver with a bank card. Cash cannot be used on board. Buying from the driver adds 20 kroner for adults and 10 for students.
- Nordland express boats have demand responsive stops. Buying in the Reis app registers the stop automatically, otherwise you order it yourself. Booking closes 60 minutes before departure and you must arrive 15 minutes before.
- Travel Pass Nordland costs 1,990 kroner and gives seven days of unlimited bus and express boat travel across Nordland, including night buses. It does not cover trains or airport shuttles.
- Manual payment on Norwegian car ferries was stopped. Number plates are read automatically and the vehicle owner is invoiced by post, with an invoice fee of 35 kroner including VAT. EPASS24 invoices foreign vehicles.
- Svolvaer Airport at Helle has a single asphalt runway of 946 metres at 8.8 metres elevation. It opened in 1972 and Wideroe flies Dash 8 aircraft to Bodo, Rost and Tromso.
- Leknes Airport has an asphalt runway of 1,071 metres and sits about 1 km from the town centre. It handled 164,150 passengers in 2025 and 133,992 in 2024.
- In Svolvaer the midnight sun runs from 25 May to 17 July, and the sun stays below the horizon from 4 December to 7 January. Leknes dates are within days of those.
- The Nappstraum Tunnel on the E10 is 1,776 metres long, reaches 63 metres below sea level and has a maximum grade of 8 percent. It opened on 11 July 1990 and replaced a ferry.
