Getting into Moscow
- Aeroexpress to Belorussky Rail Terminal (SVO), about 35 minutes
- Aeroexpress to Paveletsky Rail Terminal via Verkhnie Kotly (DME), about 45 minutes
- Aeroport Vnukovo, western terminus of the Kalininsko-Solntsevskaya line (VKO). Runs through tunnels, where a signal drops
- Aeroexpress bus from Terminal B to Khovrino metro station (SVO)
- Bus 441 to Kotelniki metro station (ZIA), about 64 minutes
Underground and on the metro
Moscow Metro runs 17 lines. It opened in 1935. The operator states mobile coverage throughout the tunnels.
Worth knowing about Moscow
- Aeroexpress no longer runs to Vnukovo. The Kiyevsky line stopped on 31 July 2024 and passed to the Central Suburban Passenger Company, and the airport has had its own metro terminus, Aeroport Vnukovo, since 6 September 2023.
- At Sheremetyevo the Aeroexpress platforms sit at the southern terminals D, E and F. Terminals B and C are a separate stop on the airport's own inter terminal train, so allow for that transfer before the train time.
- Free Wi-Fi has covered every line of the Moscow Metro since 2 December 2014, which is unusual for a system with this much deep tunnel.
- Zhukovsky, the fourth Moscow airport, has no direct rail link at all. Bus 441 from Kotelniki metro takes about 64 minutes, and the nearest station, Otdykh, still needs a connecting bus.
- Russian airspace closes during drone attacks, and the UK Foreign Office reports frequent and unpredictable delays, diversions and cancellations at airports in European Russia as a result.
