Saint Petersburg Metro runs 6 lines. It opened in 1955. The operator states mobile coverage in parts of the network only.
Worth knowing about Saint Petersburg
- Pulkovo has no rail link. An Aeroexpress line from Vitebsky Rail Terminal was listed as a future route and never built, so buses 39 and 39Ex to Moskovskaya metro are the public transport out of the single terminal.
- A metro trip costs 65 roubles on a Podorozhnik card against 95 roubles with a bank card or a token.
- Soft ground, underground rivers and a design brief that included bomb shelters pushed the tunnels deep. Saint Petersburg has the deepest average station depth of any metro in the world, and Admiralteyskaya sits 86 metres below ground.
- Mayakovskaya is a horizontal lift station, a form of platform screen door found in no other metro. The platform is a closed wall of doors, so the train stays hidden until they open.
