Worth knowing about Nyala
- Nyala airport has been held by the Rapid Support Forces since 2023. Sudanese army airstrikes on 24 September 2024 were reported to have badly damaged the runway, the control tower and the offices.
- Timetables published by Khartoum based carriers still list Nyala, but the airport is on the other side of the front line from them. Darfur 24 verified 130 aircraft landing here between 21 September 2024 and 14 March 2025, nearly all cargo and most of them arriving around two in the morning. A cargo Boeing 737 was destroyed on the ground on 3 May 2025 and a Boeing 727 crashed on 23 October 2025.
- The UK Foreign Office advice current in September 2026 names only Khartoum and Port Sudan as airports running flights, and says road travel in Sudan should be undertaken only if strictly necessary.
