- Since 2023 Port Sudan has been the working way into Sudan, taking the international traffic Khartoum could not. The terminal is 20 km south of the city.
- A Rapid Support Forces drone hit the airport fuel depot on 6 May 2025, set off a major fire and suspended all flight operations. Service resumed, and SalamAir added flights in January 2026.
- The UK Foreign Office advice current in September 2026 says Port Sudan and Khartoum are running limited flights, that both have been drone targets, and that either could close again on a temporary basis.
