- Bauerfield is effectively the only routine way into Port Vila: Wikivoyage reports that landslides caused by the December 2024 earthquake have left the main cruise terminal unreachable, so cruise ships now tender passengers ashore instead of berthing.
- The magnitude 7.3 earthquake of 17 December 2024 damaged Bauerfield's runway and terminal building; the airport closed to non-humanitarian flights for 72 hours and resumed commercial operations on 22 December 2024 after repairs.
