Worth knowing about Cairns
- Cairns Airport sits 7 km north of the city centre and there is no rail link, so every arrival is a road transfer.
- The free airport wifi is capped at one hour, so it will not carry a traveller through a long connection.
- The airport has two separate passenger terminals, T1 for international and T2 for domestic flights.
- The airport's own list of passenger services covers baggage, luggage storage, accessibility and roving Airport Ambassadors but names no mobile operator counter.
- A single Cairns bus ticket costs 50 cents and includes two hours of transfers. A daily ticket is one dollar and a weekly ticket five dollars.
- Translink says you pay onboard a Cairns bus with a credit or debit card, or with cash, and asks cash payers to carry the correct fare.
- Translink's contactless payment scheme is described as covering South East Queensland trains, trams, ferries and buses. The Cairns fares page instead tells you to pay onboard.
- Translink announced route 100 between Cairns Airport and the city from Monday 23 November 2026, 50 cents each way, every 30 minutes from 4am to 10:30pm, seven days a week.
