Underground and on the metro
Tbilisi Metro runs 2 lines. It opened in 1966. The operator does not publish whether the tunnels carry a mobile signal, so we do not claim either way.
Worth knowing about Tbilisi
- The airport rail link runs only two trains a day each way. The night train leaves at 04:00 and reaches Tbilisi central station in 35 minutes for 0.50 GEL.
- Tbilisi Metro opened on 11 January 1966, the fourth in the Soviet Union. Of its 23 stations, 21 are underground and 17 are deep level, so almost every one has a long escalator.
- Metro fares are paid with a Metromoney card costing 2 lari, which lets you re-enter the system free within 90 minutes of leaving it.
- A metro extension out to the airport was announced but the project was effectively abandoned in spring 2021.
