Worth knowing about Kingston
- Norman Manley International stands on the Palisadoes tombolo, a narrow sand spit in Kingston Harbour with the city on one side and the Caribbean Sea on the other, roughly 19 km from New Kingston.
- Tinson Pen Aerodrome (KTP) lies inside Kingston on Marcus Garvey Drive but no longer has scheduled passenger service; the former Air Jamaica Express and International AirLink flights have ended.
- Kingston is a hub for Caribbean Airlines, with over 130 international flights weekly, but Jamaica's larger tourist gateway is Montego Bay.
- Kingston faces the seventh largest natural harbour in the world, protected by the Palisadoes sand spit. Norman Manley International sits on that spit beside the harbour.
- The operator lists Norman Manley International at 3 metres above sea level, with a single asphalt runway, 12/30, of 2,716 metres.
- Norman Manley International has been run since 16 October 2019 by PAC Kingston Airport Limited, owned by Grupo Aeroportuario del Pacifico, under a 25 year concession with an option to renew for five more.
- Under that concession the operator committed US$60 million of airport development in its first three years, within a modernisation plan expected to cost more than US$100 million.
- The Palisadoes road is the only access road to Norman Manley International Airport and Port Royal. Jamaica's National Works Agency has reported it inundated by seawater washed on by rising tides.
- The Palisadoes is a thin tombolo of sand that naturally protects Kingston Harbour. It carries both the historic town of Port Royal and the airport.
- Kingston occupies the Liguanea plain about 9 metres above sea level, ringed by the Blue Mountains, the Red Hills, Long Mountain and Kingston Harbour.
- The Jamaica Urban Transit Company promotes its SmartFare card for faster boarding with no cash needed, and says a card balance can be transferred if the card is lost or stolen.
- JUTC lists SmartFare cards as available at the Half-Way Tree Transport Centre, the Downtown Transport Hub, the Greater Portmore Office and the Spanish Town Layby.
- SmartFare cards are reloaded through a vendor network of pharmacies, shops and JUTC offices that the company lists by parish, including its Downtown Hub in Kingston.
- Jamaica's Universal Service Fund runs the Connect Ja public wifi project. Its listed projects include Emancipation Park, Devon House and Mandela Park, all in Kingston and St Andrew.
- The separate USF Community Wi-Fi Programme launched in 2020 and has installed 315 free hotspots islandwide across Jamaica's 63 constituencies, with Half-Way Tree among the sites named.
- Digicel's SIM-to-Go prepaid SIM for Jamaica is picked up from local retailers such as gas stations and pharmacies, and the operator says it can be bought and activated without visiting a store.
