Getting into Bangkok
- Airport Rail Link to Phaya Thai (BKK), about 27 minutes. Runs through tunnels, where a signal drops
- SRT Dark Red Line to Krung Thep Aphiwat Central Terminal (DMK)
Underground and on the metro
MRT (Bangkok) runs 4 lines. It opened in 2004. The operator does not publish whether the tunnels carry a mobile signal, so we do not claim either way.
Worth knowing about Bangkok
- Bangkok's two rail systems behave very differently underground: the BTS Skytrain is entirely elevated with all stations above ground, while the MRT Blue and Purple lines are largely bored tunnel.
- The Airport Rail Link reaches Phaya Thai in 27 minutes and runs on an elevated viaduct for almost its whole length, with only the airport terminal station underground.
- The two Bangkok airports are on opposite sides of the city and are served by different rail lines - Suvarnabhumi by the Airport Rail Link, Don Mueang by the SRT Dark Red Line to Krung Thep Aphiwat - so a same-day airport transfer is not a single ride.
- At Don Mueang, international flights use Terminal 1 and domestic flights Terminal 2, linked by an elevated glass walkway.
