Worth knowing about Pattaya
- Most visitors arrive at Suvarnabhumi, about 120 km away, and take the airport bus - roughly an hour and a half on Motorway 7 - rather than flying into Pattaya's own airport.
- U-Tapao, the nearer airport at about 45 minutes' drive south, is in Ban Chang district of Rayong province rather than in Pattaya itself, and it is a dual-use civil-military field.
- Only one train a day links Pattaya with Bangkok's Hualamphong station on the Eastern Line, so rail is not a practical arrival route for most schedules.
- Roong Reuang Coach runs the direct Suvarnabhumi to Pattaya coach. Its stop is on Level 1 of the airport near Gate 8, close to the arrivals area, and the operator asks passengers to be there at least 15 minutes before departure.
- The operator itself puts the Suvarnabhumi to Pattaya coach at about two hours, depending on traffic, and drops passengers at the North Pattaya bus station on North Pattaya Road near Sukhumvit.
- On the Pattaya coach timetable, the last departure from Suvarnabhumi is at 18.30. The Jomtien service runs hourly from 06.00 to 22.00, but the 22.00 coach ends at the Pattaya bus station rather than Jomtien.
- Airport coach bookings must be made in the name on your passport. There are no child or senior fares, tickets are not refundable, and date or time changes need at least two days' notice.
- Each coach passenger may bring one checked bag of up to 20 kg plus one personal bag free of charge. Anything heavier or larger is charged extra.
- From central Bangkok, coaches to the Pattaya bus station leave from Ekkamai and from Mo Chit 2, which is near BTS Mo Chit and MRT Chatuchak, and take about two hours.
- There is one direct coach a day between Hua Hin and Pattaya, leaving Hua Hin at 09.00 and Pattaya at 15.30. The trip takes about five hours.
- U-Tapao has free Wi-Fi across its public areas and along its passenger routes through the terminal: join the network Free WiFi @ utapao. Prepaid SIM cards are also sold at the airport.
- Loma Pattaya Taxi Co-operative works from the car park in front of U-Tapao Terminal 1, 24 hours a day, and serves North Pattaya, Central and South Pattaya, Jomtien and Na Jomtien.
- A Suvarnabhumi Burapha minibus goes from outside U-Tapao Terminal 2 to Big C South Pattaya three times a day, with the last departure at 5.00 PM. The company warns its times can change without notice.
- At Suvarnabhumi, where most Pattaya visitors land, the free network AOT Airport Free Wi-Fi by NT needs just an email address and a tick against the terms, then gives 60 minutes online.
