Worth knowing about Krabi
- Krabi International Airport is only about 7 km east of downtown Krabi, one of the shortest airport transfers of any Thai beach destination.
- The airport was designed for three million passengers a year and has already exceeded that, with expansion under way to over eight million, so terminal facilities are stretched in high season.
- Krabi's airport wifi is run by Thailand's Department of Airports rather than Airports of Thailand, as part of a rollout announced in 2019 across 25 regional airports.
- Three Thai airports, Pattani, Mae Sariang and Tak, were left out of the Department of Airports free wifi rollout for lack of passenger demand. Krabi was included.
- A foreign visitor registering a Thai prepaid SIM must verify identity with a passport in person at a branch or authorised dealer, and is capped at three SIM cards per operator.
- A registered Thai SIM must be activated within 60 days. Miss that and the buyer has to re-verify identity in person before the card will work.
- Railay, near Krabi, can only be reached by boat, because sheer limestone cliffs cut the peninsula off from any road connection to the mainland.
- East Railay is the landing point for boats from Krabi town, while boats from West Railay run onward to Ko Phi Phi and Phuket.
- Klong Jilad pier, about 4 km from Krabi town, is a main departure point for boats to Phi Phi Island, Koh Lanta and Railay's east pier.
- Krabi International Airport opened on 10 July 1999 and stands in Nuea Khlong subdistrict of Nuea Khlong district, Krabi province.
