- SRT Dark Red Line to Krung Thep Aphiwat Central Terminal (DMK)
- Bus S1 from Suvarnabhumi Level 1 Gate 7 to Khao San Road and Sanam Luang (BKK)
- Metered public taxi from Suvarnabhumi Level 1, Gates 4 to 7 (BKK)
- Airport bus A1 from Don Mueang to BTS Chatuchak and Mo Chit 2 (DMK)
Underground and on the metro
MRT (Bangkok) runs 4 lines. It opened in 2004. The operator does not publish whether the tunnels carry a mobile signal, so we do not claim either way.
Worth knowing about Bangkok
- Bangkok's two rail systems behave very differently underground: the BTS Skytrain is entirely elevated with all stations above ground, while the MRT Blue and Purple lines are largely bored tunnel.
- The Airport Rail Link reaches Phaya Thai in 27 minutes and runs on an elevated viaduct for almost its whole length, with only the airport terminal station underground.
- The two Bangkok airports are on opposite sides of the city and are served by different rail lines - Suvarnabhumi by the Airport Rail Link, Don Mueang by the SRT Dark Red Line to Krung Thep Aphiwat - so a same-day airport transfer is not a single ride.
- At Don Mueang, international flights use Terminal 1 and domestic flights Terminal 2, linked by an elevated glass walkway.
- Suvarnabhumi's public taxis leave from Level 1 of the main terminal between Gates 4 and 7, after taking a queue ticket from a machine. The meter fare adds a 50 baht airport surcharge paid to the driver, and passengers pay expressway tolls.
- Suvarnabhumi's taxi rank has a separate short distance queue for trips within about 20 km of the airport, while longer journeys can be priced either by meter or by an agreed fare under Department of Land Transport rules.
- Grab is a legally licensed ride-hailing service at Suvarnabhumi, collecting passengers 24 hours a day at Level 1, Gate 4, on the outer curb of the main terminal.
- The Airport Rail Link station is on Level B1 of Suvarnabhumi's main terminal, with trains from 05:30 to midnight. Since 8 November 2025 every Airport Rail Link station takes contactless credit and debit cards at the gates.
- Bus S1 runs from Suvarnabhumi to Khao San Road and Sanam Luang between 06:00 and 20:00, boarding at Level 1, Gate 7. Route S6 goes to Krung Thep Aphiwat Central Terminal from the airport's bus terminal until midnight.
- A free shuttle bus links Suvarnabhumi and Don Mueang every 30 minutes from 05:00 to midnight, but only for passengers connecting between flights, who must show an onward ticket and a passport.
- Suvarnabhumi's free Wi-Fi network is AOT Airport Free Wi-Fi by NT. Entering an email address and accepting the terms gives 60 minutes of access.
- From Don Mueang, airport buses leave the international terminal at Gate 6: A1 to BTS Chatuchak and Mo Chit 2 bus terminal and A2 to Victory Monument for 30 baht, A3 to Pratunam and Lumpini Park and A4 to Khao San Road for 50 baht.
- MRT Blue and Purple Line gates accept contactless Visa, Mastercard and UnionPay credit cards from any bank, Thai or foreign. Contactless debit cards work only if issued by certain Thai banks, so foreign debit cards will not open the gate.
- The Pink and Yellow Line monorails are more flexible, taking foreign contactless debit cards as well as credit cards under Visa, Mastercard and UnionPay. Exit with the same card used to enter, or the gate charges the 45 baht maximum fare.
- Chao Phraya Express Boat runs flat-fare commuter lines on the river from Pakkret and Nonthaburi down to Sathorn and Rajsingkorn, colour coded orange, yellow, green-yellow and red, and its air-conditioned catamarans added in 2020 connect with BTS and MRT stations.
