Worth knowing about Valencia
- After the double earthquake of 24 June 2026 forced Maiquetia to close to commercial flights, Arturo Michelena became Venezuela's principal route for air traffic. Expect it to be busier and slower than its size suggests.
- The terminals are not in Valencia but in the municipality of Los Guayos, and the domestic and international terminals are separate buildings. The domestic one opened on 11 November 2006.
- The airport is about seven minutes from the Autopista Regional del Centro, two and a half hours from Caracas and thirty minutes from Puerto Cabello, which is why it doubles as a freight gateway.
- More than 60 percent of Venezuela's air cargo passes through Arturo Michelena, and freight can be cleared in Valencia without going through Maiquetia at all.
- The Valencia Metro is a single grade separated light metro line of 4.7 km with seven stations, opened to the public on 18 November 2006 and running roughly 06:00 to 20:30 on weekdays and closing an hour earlier at weekends.
