Landing at Noi Bai International Airport (HAN)

Underground and on the metro
Hanoi Metro runs 2 lines. It opened in 2021. The operator does not publish whether the tunnels carry a mobile signal, so we do not claim either way.
Worth knowing about Hanoi
- Hanoi Metro does not reach Noi Bai airport. The two open lines are 2A Cat Linh-Ha Dong (opened 6 November 2021) and the Nhon-Cau Giay section of Line 3 (opened 8 August 2024); the airport link is a separate Line 2 (Noi Bai - Nam Thang Long) still under construction with an expected 2029 completion.
- Both open Hanoi Metro sections are elevated - Line 2A's 13.1 km and 12 stations are entirely elevated, and the 8.5 km Nhon-Cau Giay stretch of Line 3 is elevated too - so there is no underground running yet; Line 3's four-station tunnel to Hanoi railway station is not due until around late 2027.
- Express bus 86 runs from Noi Bai airport to Hanoi Railway Station from 07:00 to 22:05, every 25 to 30 minutes, for 50,000 dong. Route 17 is the bus that goes to Long Bien.
- Noi Bai splits its traffic between Terminal 1 (domestic only) and Terminal 2 (all international flights, opened 4 January 2015), so international arrivals should expect to land at T2 and change terminals for onward domestic flights.
- Noi Bai's free Wi-Fi is called @Airport Free Wifi - Goldsun and covers the seating areas of both terminals. Tap the connect button on the login page that opens; each session lasts 30 minutes, then you reconnect.
- The airport operator lists express bus 86 as running from Noi Bai to Hanoi Railway Station every 25 to 30 minutes, between 07:00 and 22:05.
- Cheaper city buses leave both Noi Bai terminals too: 07 to Cau Giay, 17 to Long Bien, 90 to Kim Ma, 109 to My Dinh and E10 to Ocean Park, running from about 05:00 until 22:00 to 22:30. Route 68 is an upgraded service to Ha Dong.
- Hai Van runs two Noi Bai coach routes every 45 minutes: NB01 around Ring Road 2 and NB02 through the new urban areas.
- Only taxi firms holding a Noi Bai concession may wait at the terminals and pick up arrivals; other taxis can drop off only. Contract cars wait at halls A and E on the ground floor of Terminal 1 and at the east end of Terminal 2's ground floor.
- A free electric bus shuttles connecting passengers between Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 from 05:00 until about 01:00. Board at hall A on the Terminal 1 ground floor, or at lane 2 by pillars 11 and 12 at Terminal 2.
- Since 23 March 2026 riders on Line 2A and Line 3 can tap a contactless Visa card, phone or wearable at the gates instead of buying a separate ticket or transit card.
- The Hanoi Metro app sells tickets payable by Visa card. The app then shows a QR code that you scan at the gate.
