Worth knowing about Gweru
- Gweru has no civil airport. The airfield outside the city is an Air Force of Zimbabwe base, Thornhill, renamed Josiah Tungamirai Air Force Base under Statutory Instrument 138 of 2017, and it takes no scheduled passengers.
- Gweru sits at the geographic centre of Zimbabwe on the road and railway between Harare and Bulawayo, near the rail spur towards Maputo, so a scheduled arrival means flying into Harare or Bulawayo and driving from there.
- The railway through Gweru carries freight only. As of September 2025 the National Railways of Zimbabwe ran no passenger services at all, apart from a few tourist charters around Victoria Falls and between Harare and Mutare.
- NRZ keeps its supply centre in Gweru, and the only electrified stretch of the Zimbabwean network runs from Harare to Dabuka just outside the town, energised in 1985.
