- The airport was renamed Accra International Airport in February 2026, going back to the name it opened under in 1958. Its IATA code stays ACC.
- Lieutenant General Emmanuel Kwasi Kotoka, whose name the airport carried from 1969, was killed in a failed coup at a spot that is now the airport forecourt.
- Accra is a landing point for the SAT-3/WASC submarine cable, in service since 2001, and for 2Africa, a 45,000 km system whose Accra landing is operated by Bayobab of the MTN Group.
