Wissenswertes über Cancun
- Cancun airport spreads across four separate terminals linked only by a shuttle running every 10 minutes, so connecting between them means going landside.
- A Tren Maya station opened next to the airport in 2023, giving rail links down the coast to Playa del Carmen and Tulum.
- Cancun handles more international passengers than any other airport in Latin America, with over 29 million total passengers in 2025.
- Mexico's telecoms regulator, the CRT, issued rules in December 2025 that require every mobile line to be linked to a named holder, an obligation that started on 9 January 2026.
- The rules define a SIM as the subscriber identity module in either physical or electronic form, so an eSIM sold by a Mexican carrier falls under the same registration duty as a plastic card.
- Lines roaming into Mexico from a foreign operator are left outside the scheme for now. The regulator says it will define arrangements for international roaming once the 2026 World Cup has finished.
- A line that is not registered is cut back to receiving emergency messages and calling emergency and citizen service numbers, and the holder still owes the contracted fees.
- Registration is not done at one central government desk. The CRT portal simply lists each carrier and sends you to that company's own registration platform.
- The Nichupte bridge opened on 2 May 2026. It is 11.2 km long, carries no toll, and links Cancun's urban side to the hotel zone across the lagoon.
- Before the Nichupte bridge, transfers between the urban area, the airport and the hotel zone ran to as much as an hour. The bridge crossing takes about ten minutes.
- The bridge ties the hotel zone into Boulevard Colosio and Avenidas Tulum, Kabah and Bonampak, and was expected to cut hotel zone journeys by up to 45 minutes.
- Tren Maya section 5 is 111 km of double track electrified railway running from the Cancun Airport station south, with passenger stations at Puerto Morelos, Playa del Carmen and Tulum.
- Tren Maya tickets are sold on its website, an iOS and Android app, by WhatsApp, by phone, at station ticket windows and from vending machines.
- ASUR lists the ADO shuttle to the city at Terminals 2, 3 and 4 and taxis at Terminals 2 and 3, so the ground transport desks are not spread evenly across the airport.
- The Tren Maya station opened on 15 December 2023 across Federal Highway 180 from the airport, not inside it, and is reached by the Conexion Intermodal shuttle.
- Telcel publishes coverage maps for 2G, 3G, 4G and 5G by region, marking guaranteed coverage in green and non-guaranteed coverage in yellow.
