Wissenswertes über Novi Sad
- The Soko high speed service from Belgrade was extended to Subotica on 8 October 2025 and runs at up to 200 km/h.
- The modernised line covers the 181.6 km from Belgrade to Subotica in 1 hour 19 minutes, so an arrival at Belgrade airport still needs a transfer across the city to reach the train.
- Novi Sad railway station has been closed since a canopy collapse on 1 November 2024 that killed 16 people. Belgrade trains call at Petrovaradin instead, and Subotica and Sombor trains at Futog.
- The city utility JKP Informatika runs a free wifi network named gradnovisad. Both the username and the password are gost, so no local phone number or SMS code is needed to get online.
- The gradnovisad network has 14 access points, including Trg slobode, Zmaj Jovina at the Bishop's Palace, Dunavska, Dunavski park, Petrovaradin fortress, SPENS, Strand, the Kej and the railway station.
- A second free city network, named Evropska prestonica kulture 2021 with the access code opens2019, has covered 34 public locations in Novi Sad since 1 December 2017.
- JGSP Novi Sad sells an E-novcanik stored value card in the NSmart system. You tap it on the validator inside the bus. It is not personalised, so it can be shared, and is for anyone over ten.
- The E-novcanik card is sold at 30 JGSP outlets and at Maxim Box kiosks at bus stops, so it has to be bought before boarding rather than from the driver.
- Srbija Voz online tickets are personal and non transferable, and tickets are checked on the train against the passenger's identity document, so passenger names and dates of birth must be entered correctly.
- Srbija Voz emails the ticket as a PDF, and its own instructions say the ticket must be printed on A4 paper and carried on the train. Refunds are only possible more than 24 hours before travel, less 10 percent.
- On the Srbija Voz timetable valid 14 December 2025 to 12 December 2026, Belgrade to Subotica trains call at Petrovaradin, not Novi Sad. A bus connection is provided between Petrovaradin and Novi Sad.
- Seat reservation is compulsory on Soko trains, stated as a footnote on every page of the Belgrade to Petrovaradin to Subotica timetable.
- Serbia requires prepaid mobile registration under article 158 of the Law on Electronic Communications. A passport number is one of the accepted identifiers, alongside name, surname and phone number.
- Serbian prepaid numbers not registered by 10 February 2025 were cut to limited traffic for online registration and emergency calls, and unregistered numbers were deactivated after 10 May 2025.
- Novi Sad's main bus station handles around 1,500 bus departures and arrivals a day in local, intercity and international traffic, used by more than 100 transport operators.
