- Tromsø Airport sits on the island of Tromsøya, about 5 km and roughly 10 minutes by airport coach from the city centre.
- Tromsøya is joined to the mainland by both the Tromsø Bridge and the undersea Tromsøysund Tunnel, so road journeys into the city can pass beneath the strait.
- Tromsø lies at 69 degrees 39 minutes north, more than 300 km north of the Arctic Circle.
- You can pay by card on all buses in Tromso. Visa and Mastercard are accepted, but not Visa Electron or other card brands. From 1 February 2026 cash is no longer taken on board buses or express boats.
- Tromso has seven ticket vending machines, including one at Tromso Airport Langnes and two at the port terminal. They sell single bus tickets by credit or debit card and top up travelcards.
- Svipper is the Troms county transport app for planning journeys and buying bus and express boat tickets. It is available in English and you log in with Vipps or a one time code sent by SMS.
- Norway requires identification to buy a prepaid SIM or a mobile subscription. Visitors need a valid identity document showing date and place of birth, a photo and citizenship, such as a passport.

- The Tromsoysund Tunnel opened on 3 December 1994. Its two tubes are 3,500 and 3,386 metres long, linked by 15 service tunnels, and drop to 102 metres below sea level.
- Sentrumstangenten, 1,741 metres long and opened on 6 August 1999, branches off the Breivika tunnel at a roundabout built inside the rock under central Tromso and surfaces by Polaria.
- In Tromso the sun stays up from about 18 May to 26 July, though mountains hide it until about 21 May. It stays below the horizon from about 26 November to 15 January.
- Hurtigruten coastal ships call at the Prostneset terminal, Samuel Arnesens gate 5. Hurtigruten directs passengers to the red Bussring airport express bus, about 15 minutes from the airport.
- The Arctic Cathedral in Tromsdalen, designed by Jan Inge Hovig, was inaugurated on 19 November 1965. Its roof is 11 aluminium coated concrete slabs a side, with a Victor Sparre glass mosaic added in 1972.
