Da sapere su Oranjestad
- Tutti i voli da Aruba verso gli Stati Uniti passano i controlli statunitensi già sull'isola, con la US Customs and Border Protection, quindi i passeggeri arrivano negli Stati Uniti come su un volo interno.
- Dentro il terminal non ci sono fermate degli autobus: Arubus serve fermate appena fuori dall'area aeroportuale.
- Le tariffe dei taxi dall'aeroporto sono fissate e regolate dal governo di Aruba e pubblicate sul calcolatore ufficiale taxi.aw, quindi non c'è un tassametro da controllare.
- L'aeroporto ha una sola pista (11/29), con otto piazzole servite da finger e quattordici piazzole remote raggiunte con i bus di piazzale.
- Con la ricostruzione Gateway 2030, l'accesso al terminal check-in per gli Stati Uniti è consentito solo nelle tre ore prima della partenza.
- Arubus line L2 is the route that passes the airport. It runs between Oranjestad and San Nicolas by way of Dakota, the airport, Caya Jose Geerman and Lago Heights, in both directions.
- Arubus does not take luggage on its buses, only carry-on items, and its buses are not yet wheelchair accessible. Travellers landing with suitcases will find a taxi more practical than line L2.
- A single Arubus trip costs $2.60 or AWG 4.50 and can be paid in cash on board. A retour card covers two trips for $5.00, and a day pass costs $15.00.
- Retour cards and day passes are sold at the Arubus booth in the Oranjestad bus station and at gift shops in hotels along the beach strip, among them La Cabana, Eagle Aruba, Barcelo and Divi Divi.
- The Arubus booth at the main Oranjestad station opens Monday to Friday from 6am to 2pm. The head office at Sabana Blanco 67 keeps weekday hours of 8am to 4pm.
- Tourists may apply for the standard Arubus smartcard with a valid ID, online or at Sabana Blanco 67. Online applications take five business days to approve. The card cuts each fare to AWG 3.00 and stays valid for three years.
- The central bus station in downtown Oranjestad stands next to the cruise terminal and Royal Plaza. Lines L10A, L10B and L10C leave from there along the hotel strip to Eagle Beach, Palm Beach and Arashi Beach.
- The tourism authority gives hotel-strip frequencies of every 15 minutes from 5:45am to 6pm, then every 40 minutes until 11:30pm. Buses do not run around the clock.
- A trip from the hotel strip to San Nicolas takes two buses and two fares: one of the L10 lines into the Oranjestad main station, then line L1, L2 or L3A onward.
- An Arubus streetcar links the cruise terminal with the pedestrianised Main Street, stopping at monuments, museums and the main shopping areas. Opened in December 2012, it is the only passenger rail line on the island.
- Visitors arriving by air pay a $20 sustainability fee inside the online ED card at edcardaruba.aw. The ED card is not approved until the fee is paid, and only credit cards are accepted.
- Children under eight, same-day transit passengers and visitors returning within the same calendar year are exempt from the sustainability fee. The system cannot recognise a repeat visitor, who pays again and claims a refund from AWSS with proof.
- Since 1 May 2026 most shops and food outlets on the right side after security at Queen Beatrix have been closed to prepare phase 1B of Gateway 2030. The airport says they will move to other gate areas.
