- Exuma is a Bahamian district of more than 365 islands and cays rather than a single city; George Town on Great Exuma is its capital and largest town, with a population in the low thousands.
- Great Exuma and Little Exuma are joined by a small bridge; the rest of the chain is reached only by boat or small charter aircraft.
- Exuma International Airport takes direct flights from Miami, Charlotte, Atlanta, Fort Lauderdale and Toronto as well as Nassau, so arrival does not have to be routed through Nassau.
- Staniel Cay and Black Point in the northern cays have their own small airstrips served by charter and scheduled operators, separate from the main Exuma airport.
- The airport terminal is small enough that passengers board from the tarmac by stairs, with a replacement terminal under construction.
