- Santorini's caldera is a water filled volcanic collapse whose inner cliffs drop more than 300 m at their highest.
- The Minoan eruption about 3,600 years ago threw an estimated 61 cubic kilometres of magma and rock into the atmosphere.
- In February 2025 an earthquake swarm of hundreds of tremors, the strongest magnitude 5.3, prompted about 6,000 people to leave by ferry and about 2,700 by air. The state of emergency was lifted on 3 March.
