- Roatan is an island, not a city. It runs about 59 km long and is less than 8 km across at its widest point, lying roughly 65 km off the northern coast of Honduras.
- The island sits on the southern edge of the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef System, the second largest barrier reef in the world.
- The airport is in the western part of the island near Coxen Hole, the largest settlement, with about 12,500 residents.
- The Galaxy Wave ferry sails twice a day each way between Roatan and La Ceiba, leaving Roatan at 07:00 and 14:00 and La Ceiba at 09:30 and 16:30.
- English is widely spoken on Roatan alongside Spanish, a legacy of its Bay Islands history rather than mainland Honduran usage.
