Da sapere su Bishkek
- Manas International is about 25 km north-west of Bishkek, in Sokuluk District rather than the city itself.
- Bishkek has no metro and no rail transit at all: public transport is buses, marshrutka minivans and taxis, with a light rail system still only under consideration.
- The city's trolleybuses were phased out completely in 2024.
- The airport terminal has been under expansion by the China Road and Bridge Corporation since 7 March 2025, with work completed by mid-2026.
- Bishkek public transport fares are taken by Tulpar validators, which accept contactless VISA and Elcard bank cards from any bank and also support Google Pay.
- Bishkek city hall lists QR fare payment on board through the MBANK, MegaPay, ODengi, Balance and Tulpar apps, plus a virtual NFC card you tap with a smartphone.
- Tulpar transport cards are sold at mobile operator offices and at Kyrgyz Post branches, and topped up at operator service centres, ticket offices, retail points and payment machines.
- A Kyrgyz SIM has to be registered against a passport. Beeline lets you do it inside its app by photographing your passport pages and taking a selfie with the passport.
- Beeline says that until a Kyrgyz number is registered, the SIM gives access to only a limited set of services.
- Since 25 June 2024 Kyrgyzstan requires mobile devices to be registered by IMEI in the State Identification System. Beeline says unregistered devices are blocked from working on Kyrgyz operator networks.
- Phones with two SIM slots or eSIM support carry several IMEI codes, and Beeline says each code is registered separately in the Kyrgyz device registry.
- Manas International Airport changed its IATA code from FRU to BSZ on 9 August 2025, so older bookings and third party listings may still show FRU.
- United States forces arrived at Manas in late December 2001 and ran a base there, later called the Transit Center at Manas, until it closed and was handed to Kyrgyz authorities in 2014.
- Bishkek sits at about 800 metres altitude just off the northern fringe of the Kyrgyz Ala-Too Range, while Manas airport stands at 637 metres.
- Bishkek's streets follow a grid pattern, and most are flanked on both sides by narrow irrigation channels.
- Kyrgyzstan's foreign ministry lists 55 countries whose citizens may enter visa free for 30 days within any 60 day period, and 90 days in 180 for EAEU states, Serbia, Turkiye, Ukraine and Mongolia.
